Some of My Favorites: Top Ten Male Anime Protagonists

A great male main character is one that is hard to find.

They’re not the manliest of men, but neither are they complete pushovers either.  These characters are the ones that have drive, that have charisma, the ones that are interesting, engaging, and push the story forward.  It is through them, that we experience the anime we love, and are a major reason as to why anime tend to go down in history as some of the best.

And these, are my personal favorites among the bunch.

Some of My Favorites: Five of the Best Endings in Anime

The ending of an anime is what separates “great” from “legendary.”

An ending is the last hurrah, the thematic synopsis, the final moments in which an anime can distinguish itself from the rest.

These are some of my personal favorites, not the greatest literary, thematically satisfying, most powerful of all time.  So, other endings that would probably be considered the “top” might not be here!  Also, obviously, be prepared for spoilers!

Reading Between Reviews: Clannad!

I’ve wanted to review this one for a while now.

Clannad is one of those series that is near and dear to many people’s hearts.  I talked about it recently, as my second favorite story of all time, and from what I know, it was an emotional trip for almost everyone that’s watched it.  But that’s all from personal preference, experiencing a story that I perceived as great.  Critically speaking, is there anything different about Clannad?  How good is it, really?

Well, that’s what this review is for, right?  Strip the feelings, and let’s get a good logical look at this series, and see how it holds up.

My Top Ten Favorite Stories: 3-2

So, we’ve into my top three- the stories that have inspired me the most to write, to talk, to keep experiencing more and more new things.

For the most part, I acknowledge that these stories have their flaws, but for whatever reason, they’ve certainly hit home for me.  Of course, there’s DEFINITELY quality behind these works in some way, or else they wouldn’t be up here, but, overall, you guys are getting personal over objective judgment here.

Let get back into it!

Some of My Favorites: Five Most Unexpected Moments of Anime!

Unexpected moments in anime can be rather rare, but when they happen, they leave an impact.

In recent years, people have learned how stories work. We call out who wins the battle, who’s bound to die, and when the big climactic betrayal happens!  It’s been put down to a science, “tropes” that are commonly seen in a story, that can be predicted, character types, plot twists, and big revelations that aren’t exactly surprising.  Because of how many stories we’ve experienced, many of us have become rather adept at predicting the coming events, making a good surprise in an anime a very unique treat.

These unexpected moments challenge what we think we know of a genre, and can come from many places.  They take our ideas of romance, of shounen, of drama, and flip them on their head.  And of course, for different people, they vary.  That being said, I remember five distinct moments in anime that really surprised me, personally, and I’m certain that they surprised others as well.

I don’t think it needs to be said, but beware: spoilers ahead!

Some of My Favorites: Five Emotional Anime!

Anime is a great thing.

And I don’t mean that purely as a memetic statement, I think it’s  great that Japan embraces animation as a means of expression.  Cartoons in America are exemplified by Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, with a mainstream focus on kids, rather than adults.  Even the animation geared towards adults in America are comedies, like the Simpsons and Family Guy.  However, over in Japan, we can get stories that are, without a doubt, on par with the best TV shows America has to offer.  Through animation, it has become possible to tell thematically intricate, powerful stories- stories that have the ability to touch the hearts of those who watch them.

There are many, many such stories, too many for any one person to watch all on their own, but as someone who’s watched a decent amount, I’d like to share the anime that made me teary-eyed at points.  There’s too many to name, and more waiting to be discovered, but this won’t be a comprehensive list.   This’ll just be a quick list of some of the best (in my opinion) anime to get those emotions stimulated!
